Although Salen is a small village,
with an approximate population of 200 we have everything
here
that you may require during your holiday. There is
a Spar shop 100 yds along the road, a Post Office,
an Hotel. (with a local pub). There is also a
petrol-station, a garage, a doctor's surgery, a Church
of Scotland, and even the
cottage
hospital based in Salen. We are 10 miles from Tobermory
(the "capital"), 10 miles from Dervaig, where the famous
43 seater Mull Theatre was based (now in Tobermory)and
10 miles from Craignure, the main ferry port on the
Island.
Being
situated at
the narrow part of Mull the west coast with its lovely
sandy beaches is easily reached. Salen is about 9 miles
from Ulva Ferry from where you take a small boat over
to the wonderful Isle of Ulva. We are a little further
from the Isle of Iona, but as the journey is full of
spectacular scenery and the chance of glimpsing a golden
or sea eagle along the way, we are sure you will enjoy
the time spent travelling.
There can be few places to
rival this idyllic island for sheer variety of landscapes
-
peaceful harbours,
dramatic mountains, historic castles, crashing waterfalls
- it's all here for you to discover. Experience the
utter tranquillity of Mull, the ideal place to unwind
and enjoy
those activities which are so pleasurable; walking,
cycling, kayaking, sailing, golfing, fishing, pony-trekking.
All these and
more can be enjoyed on Mull. If you prefer more leisurely
pursuits, trips to Iona, Fingal's Cave (Staffa) and
the Treshnish Isles are available. Or discover what
Mull
is rightly famous for - its wildlife - the magnificent
sea eagle and golden eagles, the secretive otter
and the amusing seals, or why not join one of the safaris
or
whale
watching
trips and really find out about the animals who live
here. |
